외국계 기업에 취업하거나 외국 대학교에 입학하기 위해서는 영문 이력서인 resume(레쥬메)가 필수이지만 우리나라와 달리 자기소개서인 cover letter(커버레터)가 필수는 아닙니다. 하지만 기업에 따라 cover letter를 요구하는 회사가 있습니다.
커버레터는 인사 담당자에게 이메일을 보낸다고 생각하고 편지 형식으로 작성합니다. 우리나라 자기소개서와 다르게 형식이 정해져 있지 않습니다. 그러니 이메일 안에서 자신의 경험과 강점을 부각해야 합니다. 그리고 겸손한 자세보다는 당당하고 자신감있는 태도로 자신의 강점을 작성하여야 합니다.
그리고 이메일 형식이라고 해서 캐주얼한 태도는 안됩니다. 무례하지 않게 보이지 않도록 예의를 갖춘 영어로 작성해야 합니다. 또한 형식이 없다고 해서 너무 길게 작성하면 읽기가 힘드니 문단을 나눠 요약해서 작성하는 것이 좋습니다.
영어 자기소개서 작성 공식
3문단으로 끝내라!
1. 자기소개 + 지원동기 + 지원직무 (어떻게 지원하게 되었는지 얘기)
자신의 역량을 나타내는 키워드 2-3개 언급하여 자신을 소개하고 지원한 직무와 연관된 활동과 경력을 간단히 작성합니다.
2. 업무경력 + 핵심역량 + 성과 언급
회사의 핵심 분야, 미래 성장 가능성을 언급하여 이 기업에 관심이 많았음을 표현하고 이 기업에서 본인의 장점(핵심역량)그리고 업무 경력을 자세히 작성합니다. 그리고 자신의 강점으로 어떠한 성과를 얻었는지 강조합니다.
3. 입사 후 포부 + 본인 핵심역량 재언급 + 감사인사
자신의 강점을 다시 어필하고 적극적인 자세와 열정을 강조합니다. 시간을 내서 이메일을 읽어주셔서 고맙다는 표현을 마지막에 꼭 넣어줍니다.
